Slate (סלייט)

Slate is a cloud accounting and invoicing system for freelancers, self-employed professionals and small businesses in Israel. It issues tax invoices, receipts, invoice-receipts, credit notes, quotes and delivery notes that meet Israeli Tax Authority rules. The core of the system is free: no document cap, no limit on the number of businesses in one account, and no credit card to start.

Compliance is built into how documents are created. Numbering is sequential and gapless per business and document type, every issued document is digitally signed, and an issued document can never be edited, renumbered or deleted. Each document keeps a frozen copy of the business details, customer details, VAT rate, line items and logo used at the time, so a later rebrand or price change never alters a document already sent. Invoices above the Tax Authority threshold receive an allocation number from the Israel Invoice system during issue, and if the Authority declines, the business chooses what happens next: retry, continue without a number, object, or cancel with a credit note. Expenses are tracked alongside income, with deductible input VAT and the income-tax percentage of each category frozen on the expense. From that Slate produces VAT, income, aging, item and customer reports. Customers, products and price lists live in the same place, a quote turns into an invoice in one step, and one account can run several businesses side by side.

AI is used where it saves typing, and it never writes to the books on its own. Receipt scanning reads a photo or PDF and fills the expense form, one at a time or in a batch. A sentence in Hebrew or English becomes a draft document with line items and totals. Spreadsheet imports map unfamiliar column headers automatically. The Ask Your Books assistant answers questions about revenue, debtors, VAT position and best-selling items using read-only queries scoped to that business. Every AI result is a suggestion a person reviews before saving or sending. Documents go out as PDF, email, WhatsApp or a public verification link with a QR code that confirms the copy matches the signed original. The interface is Hebrew-first with English, and it installs as an app on a phone.
