Tucked into the heart of Louisiana since 1974, we’ve been helping adventurers gear up and get out there with confidence. The Backpacker started with a simple idea: that adventure should be more than just exciting; it should be done right. From our founder Dale Mathews’ early days in the Rockies to today’s thriving stores in Baton Rouge and Lafayette, that idea still drives us.

We offer high-end apparel and outdoor gear for anything from paddling a Louisiana bayou to strolling local trails to fresh powder skiing on a winter vacation.
