Downtown Franklin might be the easiest place in Middle Tennessee to get holiday shopping done and actually enjoy it. Main Street is walkable, the shops are independently owned, and by late fall the whole historic district starts to look like a holiday card. If you're planning a shopping day this season, a little planning goes a long way.

Go Early, and Go on a Weekday if You Can

Weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas get busy downtown, especially around big events like the Christmas tree lighting and Dickens of a Christmas. If your schedule allows, a weekday morning is the calmest time to browse. Shops are quieter, staff have more time to help, and parking is far easier to find.

Park Once and Walk

Street parking runs along Main Street and the side streets, but on busy days it's worth heading straight for the public garage on 2nd Avenue. From there, everything on Main Street is a short walk, and you won't spend the afternoon circling the block. Wear comfortable shoes and plan to carry bags between stops, or drop purchases in the car midway through.

A Stop That Covers Several Names at Once

Directly across from the Franklin Theatre at 418 Main Street, Flying Cow Natural Skincare is a good stop for knocking out a few gifts together. Once the shopping is done, stay for dinner downtown or catch a holiday film at the Franklin Theatre. Franklin is about 20 miles south of Nashville, which makes it an easy day trip, and in December the lights along Main Street are worth staying past sunset to see.
