Why Strands Can Be Challenging

Share article

The difficulty of Strands comes from combining word recognition with spatial reasoning. Players must understand the theme, recognize possible answers, and trace each word through a connected grid. A word may be familiar, yet its location can make it difficult to discover.

Another challenge is that the theme clue may have several interpretations. You might initially focus on one category, only to discover that the answers share a broader characteristic. Taking time to consider alternative meanings can prevent you from getting stuck on the wrong idea.

Longer words can also be challenging because their letters may travel through unexpected parts of the board. Instead of searching only for complete words, try identifying smaller letter combinations and extending them into possible answers.
