Turn a scanned PDF into Markdown you can edit
Share article
A scanned PDF is easy to read and hard to reuse. The words are in the picture, so you cannot drop a heading into a notes file or fix a table without retyping it.
A practical conversion starts with the file you have, not the format you wish you had. Text PDFs can ke for that job. It converts PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, EPUB, and images into Markdown, runs OCR on scans, and can export the edited Markdown back out to DOCX, PDF, HTML, images, EPUB, PPTX, or XLSX. I check the headings and the tables before I treat the file as done.
Damon Bergerep headings. Scans and photos need OCR before the headings make sense. Spreadsheets should stay rows, and a slide deck should stay slides, or the Markdown you get back is just a pile of lines.
