During the Anthony Wayne Bridge renovation in Ohio, engineers selected fiberglass-reinforced polymer rebar after composite-material bids came within 1% of the total project cost.

Why consider fiberglass rebar?

It does not rust, helping reduce concrete deterioration and extend structural service life. It is also about one-quarter the weight of steel, making transportation, handling, and installation easier. According to the project team, installing the same length required roughly one-third to one-half less labor time.

The project demonstrated how corrosion resistance, predictable material costs, and faster installation can make fiberglass rebar a practical alternative for infrastructure construction. 🌉
