Why Outdoor? US consumers are making more purchase decisions on the road, as they spend more time out of home. The growth in travel time is due to an increase in working families, more cars on the road, more miles driven, and longer commute times. The following statistics show the trends in consumer mobility. In 2011, 92% of Americans had a vehicle available; 59% had two or more vehicles available. About one out of six vehicle trips are taken on an interstate highway during an average weekday. Of those trips, 44 percent are commutes, while the rest are personal business, shopping, and social trips. The number of transit trips increased by nearly 50 percent from 1995 to 2009. Transit maintained the number of commuting trips, while increasing personal trips. Sources: 2009 National Household Travel Survey (NHTS), Demographics Now, US Census Bureau
